When our only daughter finally reached her teen years, it was but natural that we began to remove furniture and fixtures from her childhood, and buy new items that will reflect her blossoming womanhood. Redecoration was done with her input. Admittedly, I had my reservations about making this purchase. Aside from its cost, I thought that a chandelier may be too lavish for a teenager’s bedroom. The chandelier has crystal drops that you simply hang underneath the lamps and other parts of the fixture’s frame. Being particularly about potential electrocution and fire hazards, my husband studied the technical requirements of the chandelier. Thankfully, the fixture has met both UL and CSA standards. A point of amusement for our family was when my hubby said that the chandelier was suitable for dry location use, to which my daughter remarked, “Dad, we’re putting it inside my room, not the bathroom.”
Installing the chandelier proved to be a breeze for my husband. If he had concerns at first about safety, he was soon convinced because of the hardwiring that comes with the lighting fixture, so that it was not difficult for him to connect the chandelier to the wiring in our ceiling. Although the chandelier comes with a 3-foot chain, we had to shorten it to 2 feet because it dangled too low from the ceiling. The best, however, was yet to come.
Although the chandelier looked magnificent as is, imagine our delight when we finally switched it on. It has a bright white glow that just fills the entire room. As the days passed, I would see my daughter doing her homework in the relative comfort of her own bed under the light of her chandelier. To my secret relief, it did not create sudden increases in our power bills.
